USAID donates ventilators to Rwanda for COVID-19

Through the US Agency for International Development (USAID),Rwanda has received a hundred medical ventilators from the United States. 

The medical ventilators will be used by hospitals that admit Coronavirus patients for treatment.

The modern medical technology  machines will be respiratory support devices to help patients breath.

Rwanda additionally had 89 medical ventilators for respiratory support in different hospitals.

 The machines that are estimated to cost Rwf1 billion operate invasively and non-invasively.

  US ambassader,Peter Vrooman, said local doctors and nurses will be trained to use the machines where need arises.

“We are  working together to ensure medical personnel receive  necessary medical training to safely use the devices.”

USAID will complement with Minister Ngamije, the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) to distribute  the medical  equipment to 10 government hospitals and 4 COVID-19 treatment centers  in the country.

Minister of Health, Dr. Daniel Ngamije,  said that need ventilators will also be procured and distributed to different hospitals.
